What A Bag Actually Has To Survive At The Beach
A beach bag fails in ways a city bag never does, and always in the same four places: it gets wet, it gets sand in the weave, it gets loaded past what the handles were designed for, and it spends hours in direct sun. Everything on this page is chosen against those four, not against how the bag photographs on a plain background.
Wet is the first one. PP (polypropylene) straw holds its shape and colour through damp use; paper-rope straw looks more artisanal and is much less happy when soaked. For a range that will genuinely go to a beach rather than to a rooftop bar, PP is the safer specification.
Sand is the second. An open weave lets sand out again; a lined bag keeps it off the contents. Most straw styles here carry a lining because that is what takes the load off the weave — whether a given style is lined, and in which fabric, is confirmed per order.
Load and sun are the last two. Handle attachment is the part worth checking on your sample, because it is where a beach bag gives up first. Colour choice matters too: deep dyed shades read richer in a shop and show sun exposure sooner than naturals do.

Buyer Questions
Which of these suit a resort shop, and which suit an online summer capsule?
Resort and destination shops sell shape and colour at arm's length, so weight the buy towards large open totes in strong colours and keep depth on two or three silhouettes rather than breadth across ten. An online capsule is the opposite: capacity and per-piece weight are what the customer reads, smaller crossbody and bucket formats ship as single parcels far more economically, and the range can be wide because you are not paying for shelf space. Are these usable at the beach, or are they only for the look?
Both exist in the category and it is worth being deliberate about which you are buying. PP straw bodies with a lining and reinforced handle attachment are genuinely usable — damp towels, sand, a full season. Paper-rope straw and the more open crochet shapes are the fashion end: they belong in resort wear and holiday photographs rather than in surf. - It has to look right full
- A beach bag is photographed loaded — towel, bottle, book sticking out of the top. Open shapes and structured bodies survive that; a soft bag that slumps when full photographs badly and sells worse, however good it looks empty on a shelf.
- Straw is not the whole answer

Do these bags cope with sand and salt water?+

What are beach bags made of?+

How do I clean a straw bag after a beach trip?+
Wipe or rinse with fresh water, dry it flat and away from direct heat, and store it stuffed rather than flattened so the weave keeps its shape. Salt water should come off the same day it goes on. We can print that wording on your care label, and it is worth doing: a straw bag that gives up after one holiday has usually been left damp in a suitcase rather than made badly.
Which styles work as travel, vacation or festival bags?+
Most of this range does double duty, and it is worth merchandising it that way rather than as beach-only stock. A large woven tote is the vacation bag people actually pack, because it folds flat in a suitcase and comes back out as the day bag; the openwork crochet crossbodies are the festival bag and the travel bag for the same customer, small enough to wear all day and light enough not to count against a cabin allowance. What size should a beach bag be?+
Typical beach bag dimensions in this range run from about 30 cm wide for a shoulder style up to about 50 cm for a large tote, with depth mattering more than height: a towel, a bottle and a change of clothes is roughly 20 litres.
